Cardboard Shell for Heat Retention
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The addition of a shell to help retain heat had been a project on the back of my mind until now. A $1.46 box available from Lowe's was the solution. All it needed was some cutting and re-gluing. Adding rigid insulation (used in building walls) inside the box is worth it. Using this box, most of the heat is now lost out the top, not from the sides that have almost 4x the surface area as the top.

The initial attempt to contain the heat was to use spray foam (Great Stuff) and create a shell the cage sat in. This was a lot of work and required about 1.5 cans of foam per box, then needed painted. Too much like work. Plus the paint stuck to the formica table the box sat on, even after drying for a few days.
