I have seen many sites on the web for raising house crickets that involved a material being added to the cage for the crickets to walk on, I found anything other than a sheet of paper (as mentioned in the article) was more of a hinderance in cleaning the cage and offered no benefit to the crickets. I think is it like adding grass to a jar of fireflies- totally unneeded and actually can be detrimental to the firefly, It is a human idea, With a sheet of paper on the bottom I can transfer young crickets to a new cage in less than 3 minutes. This includes setting up the new cage.
